You are Imprisoned for an unknown crime, sent to a labor prison camp owned by the kingdom of Myrtana sealed in shut by powerful magics by the monarchs’ best mages, but as you have ushered inside a mutiny inside the prison camp caused the magic that was supposed to seal the prisoners inside the mine has gone awry, with the king’s hands tied with the orc invasion, the ore inside the mine has become invaluable he, capitulates and is forced to make a deal with the leaders the prison its most violent prisoners, but what they don’t know is that you’re in the prison arrival will change absolutely everything.

They're a chatty bunch in Gothic.Gothic Remake is an action-adventure RPG made by Alkimia Interactive, as the title suggests is a remake of the classic Gothic 1 made in 2001 a landmark classic of the RPG genre. And there's a fair amount of it, though none of it riveting enough that I couldn't have done with the option to skip some of it. It's pretty grisly in general-lots of blood and corpses-and it strikes a more serious tone than its predecessor, complete with voice acting that significantly improves on the original's. This also leads to more fights and potentially cuts questlines short. You can be a dick on purpose too, of course, like lying and murdering and thieving.

Just pulling out your sword pisses people off, so you can end up in fights with people you'd maybe rather talk to, creating some rather embarrassing situations.

And instead of just telling you there might be some weapons lying around, you're sent on a quest to recover a pendant, teaching you more about quests and combat, after which you're rewarded with a gross sword pulled out of a charred corpse. The original intro cinematic, for instance, has been expanded and turned into a tutorial where you need to get through a fire and some rather unfriendly beasties. In some places it sticks quite closely to the original, but it eases you into the adventure instead of immediately sending you on a quest.
